The Role of Geotextiles
The role of geotextiles:
1.Isolate
Geotextiles can be used to isolate building materials with different physical properties, such as soil and sand, soil and concrete. It can make two or more materials do not lose, do not mix, maintain the overall structure and function of the material, so as to strengthen the carrying capacity of the structure.
2.Filtration (backfiltration)
When water flows from the fine soil layer into the coarse soil layer, the air permeability and water permeability of the geotextile allow water to pass through, and effectively trap soil particles, fine sand, small stones, etc., to maintain the stability of soil and water engineering.
3.Drain water
Geotextile has good water conductivity, can form a drainage channel inside the soil, the excess liquid and gas in the soil structure out.
4.Reinforcing
By enhancing the tensile strength and deformation resistance of soil, geotextile can improve the stability of building structure and improve the quality of soil.
5.Defense
Geotextile can effectively disperse, transfer or decompose concentrated stress, prevent soil from being damaged by external force, and play a role in protecting soil.
6.Puncture proof
When combined with geomembrane, geotextile can play a role in preventing puncture and form a composite waterproof and impermeable material together with geomembrane.
7.Reduced binding power
In some cases, geotextile can reduce the bonding force between the overlay layer and the old concrete pavement layer, and reduce the large tensile strain of the overlay layer, so as to relieve the stress concentration at the joint crack and delay the generation of reflection cracks.
8.Stress absorption
Geotextile can also play the role of stress absorption sandwich, the reflected crack stress from the vertical direction to the horizontal direction, and make the stress spread to a wider range, enhance the overall tensile strength of asphalt concrete
